If you’re a male nurse considering a career in nursing, you might be wondering if there are any scholarships for male nurses available to you.
Scholarships were designed to benefit two sets of people:
- High achievers in athletics, academia, or other areas of education
- Minority groups who typically come up against roadblocks when it comes to financing their education
There are a lot of scholarships out there for women aiming to educate themselves in specific fields to help diversify male-dominated industries. However, for obvious reasons, there are not as many opportunities for male-specific scholarships.
With nursing, however, which has been traditionally staffed by women, there are a few more scholarship opportunities for men. As such an in-demand field constantly in need of more nursing students and graduates it’s no surprise they would find ways to incentivize students to continue their nursing education.
To supplement your scholarship search, you should make sure to file the FAFSA® for every year you’re in school. This will automatically give schools your financial information so they can put together your financial aid package. The package will usually include everything from grants, work-study programs, federal loans, and yes, even institutional-based scholarships.
The FAFSA® is a great place to start if you need money for college. Still, the only scholarships you’re likely to get in your aid package from FAFSA® are the ones from the nursing school or program you’ve applied to. To get more scholarships, you’ll need to apply for them directly. Keep reading to learn about which scholarships are available for men and where to look for other opportunities that might work for you.
