Ahhh! You are graduating from high school. This is such an exciting time. But you have to be ready. There are a lot of things to remember before the big day.
1. Don’t Slack Off
We’ve all heard of senioritis. Now let’s be real, the second half of senior year is a lot chiller than the first but it’s still no cakewalk. Colleges have the ability to revoke admission. Your acceptance can be taken away if you fail a class, get caught plagiarizing, get suspended in school, etc.
So you don’t have to try as hard as you did in the fall but you can’t not try either. Be sure to stay on top of things even though you’re already accepted into school. You haven’t graduated just yet!
2. Prepare For College
Figure out what you need to have ready before you go start school in the fall. For example; Is there required reading? Do you have to choose a roommate? Do you have to register for classes?
Usually during the summer is when you choose your classes and your living situation. Your college will walk you through all of this; telling you when you need to register by, what the core curriculum classes are, etc.
Choosing a roommate can be stressful. There are so many horror stories. But trust your instincts, ask the right questions, and if your roommate gets chosen for you — take everything i stride.
Personally, I got a random roommate and I completely lucked out. My roommate was someone who I never would have chosen if I had the opportunity. She was an introvert, I’m an extrovert. She’s from a rural area and I’m from the city. You get the idea.
But it was perfect because we lived so well together and that’s all that mattered. She would let me talk on and on and just listen or would give me my space when I didn’t want to talk. We weren’t best friends but we always got along and it was perfect that way. So in conclusion, it’s not about finding someone who is similar to you, its about finding someone who can live well with you.
3. Plan Your Summer
The summer between high school and college is weird, to say the least. You’re not really a student. You’re not a high schooler anymore nor a college student yet. Use this time to make some extra cash, spend time with friends, and get ready for your new journey.
This is a really special time. Yes, it is stressful and overwhelming at times but things will always work out. Make the most of it and congratulations!
