What is considered a part time student?

A part-time student is defined as a student who takes less than 12-credit hours, which equates to 2-3 classes per semester.

Part-Time Students & Work

Being a part-time student offers more flexibility to take classes at your own pace. Whether you work full-time, have family responsibilities, or simply don’t want a full-time class schedule – part-time students have more time to focus on other areas of their lives in addition to school.

Part-Time Students & Financial Aid

Taking classes part-time also allows students to lessen the financial burden by spreading classes out and being able to work to afford them. While attending classes part-time does negatively affect the amount of federal financial aid or scholarship eligibility, it does allow students who don’t qualify for financial aid to pay for classes while accruing little to no debt.

Going to college as a part-time student doesn’t necessarily make it any easier. Students still need to manage their time efficiently and stay committed. Although being a part-time student may be less overwhelming, all classes will still have strict deadlines and due dates in place.
