North Carolina Financial Aid: Grants & Scholarships

North Carolina students looking for additional financial aid for college will be happy to know that the state offers several options. North Carolina financial aid includes grants, scholarships, and even assisted state loans. Here’s what you need to know about applying and recieving North Carolina state financial aid awards.

First File Your FAFSA®

Your first step will be filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). This application will automatically submit your eligiblity for federal aid as well as some institutional-based aid awards. If you haven’t filed already, you can file for FREE on Frank in under 7 minutes.

Apply for North Carolina Financial Aid

It’s important to know that most state aid options also include their own application process. Scholarships usually have their own requirements and application as well. However, North Carolina financial aid is heavily reliant on the FAFSA®, so once you file you’ll be submitted for multiple state-based options. Still, there are a few aid opportunities you’ll want to be aware of.

NC Education Lottery Scholarship

This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled in an NC Community College or one of the 16 UNC system campuses. It is administered by the financial aid offices at these institutions.

NC Community College Grant

This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled in an NC Community College.

UNC Need-Based Grant

This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at one of the 16 UNC system campuses.

NC Need-Based Scholarship

This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled at least three-quarter time as undergraduate students at an eligible NC independent non-profit campus.
