The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA®, is the first step to receiving financial aid to pay for college in Mississippi. This application determines student eligibility for federal loans, grants like the Pell grant, work-study programs and even some scholarships.
Apply for Mississippi State Financial Aid
The state of Mississippi offers a variety of grants and scholarships to help deserving students within the state find the extra money they need to pay for their college education.
Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant
This need-based grant was created to help low-income students who qualify for the Pell grant but still have a financial aid gap. Eligible students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be enrolled in a state college or university.
To apply, students must file the FAFSA®.
Mississippi Eminent Scholars Program
This merit-based financial aid program was created to help students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and a minimum SAT score of 1290 pay for college. To be eligible, students must also be enrolled full-time in a state college or university.
Mississippi Higher Education Legislative Plan (HELP)
This state financial aid program offers full tuition assistance for students who demonstrate financial need. Students must also have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and have a minimum score of 29 on the ACT.
To apply, students must file the FAFSA® application.
Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers & Firemen Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial aid to dependent students of police officers and firefighters who have been killed in the line of duty. Eligible students must be enrolled in a state college or university full-time.
This scholarship program covers the total cost of tuition and housing and is renewable for up to 8 semesters (4 years).
