South Dakota State Financial Aid: Grants & Scholarships

Buzz Bonus Scholarship

Available at Black Hills State University, the Buzz Bonus scholarship is offered to students based on exceptional ACT scores and academic merit. The award ranges depending on your success but can top out at $1,000.

Presidential Champion Scholarship

Students who receive a 28 or higher on their ACTs could qualify for the Presidential Champion Scholarship. It’s a renewable scholarship of up to $2,150 per year with a rolling application deadline. 

Reduced Tuition Programs

The South Dakota Board of Regents offers significant savings in tuition reduction programs throughout the state. 


This is primarily available to employees of South Dakota, elementary/secondary teachers, and vocational school instructors to help them further their education.

Tech Challenge Scholarship

Many of South Dakota’s financial aid offerings come from state schools themselves. That includes the Tech Challenge Scholarship. The School of Mines and Technology offers a scholarship to help recruit and retain South Dakota State students’ best. It significantly increases the amount of aid given to tech students but specifically focuses on incoming freshmen taking a two-year program.
