The state of Alabama offers an array of financial aid options like grants, scholarships, and loans that make it easy to pursue an affordable college degree.
To be eligible to apply for financial aid in Alabama state, you’ll first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA®.
Apply for Alabama State Financial Aid
The state of Alabama sponsors a variety of grants commissioned by the Alabama Commission of Higher Education. These state-sponsored grants help Alabama students afford an education and achieve their college dreams.
The Alabama Student Grant Program
This state-sponsored grant is not awarded to students based on financial need. In order to apply for this grant, students must meet the following requirements:
- Be a US citizen
- Must have graduated from high school
- Be an Alabama state resident
- Be enrolled full-time or half-time in an approved college or university
- Be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress
- May not be pursuing a religious degree, this grant is only available for secular degrees
The Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP)
This financial aid program is available for students who demonstrate financial need. If awarded, students are eligible for $300-$5,000 per year. This program is available to undergraduate students who are Alabama state residents that have filed the FAFSA®.
Two-Year College Academic Scholarship Program
This Alabama state grant is awarded to students based on their merit. Only available to Alabama state residents, this scholarship covers tuition and books in full. To apply, students must contact their college’s financial aid office for an application. Then, a scholarship committee will choose the recipients.
